Tom and Susan’s work is rooted in the model and system of beliefs of Professional Learning Communities. In this, they build on the work of Rick and Becky DuFour and Bob Eaker. Tom and Susan understand the student learning depends on embedded professional learning for teachers and school leaders. To that end, their work supports educators working reflectively and collaboratively to continually support one another to improve their practice. Even more importantly, they understand the systematic nature of supporting Professional Learning Communities and can attend to challenges and opportunities throughout these complex systems.
